About the Exhibit
The signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 2, 1964 marked the culmination of a decades long campaign to end racial inequality in the United States. Viewed as the most significant and far-reaching legislation ever passed through Congress, the bill banned discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
Remembering the Act: Archival Reflections on Civil Rights celebrates the 50th anniversary of the law by recounting the political, historical, and cultural aspects of the struggle for civil rights through the lens of The Ohio State University Libraries Special Collections.
